Many Industrial Networks cover large areas in which most equipment including Ethernet Switches are placed in a distributed architecture. Maintaining security is a major concern as system integrators and outside consultants without proper authorization or a check of their computer for viruses, can plug into the internal networks. What may be considered a harmless quick connection to check the configuration of a PLC, Process controller, or IP camera, can expose the entire network.
